Calico Winds
Eileen Holt flute

With their colorful and lively sound, you might guess that the Calico Winds take their name from the splendid patches of a calico cat. The Los Angeles-based wind quintet’s ALL IN ONE features a chimeric catalog that draws from old and new alike, paying tribute to both vanguards of classical and cutting-edge contemporaries. Works by Bach, Carter, Nielsen, Schifrin, and Zappa come together in an energetic menagerie of time and style, blurring the lines between genres with prismatic tone colors and whip-crack precision.

Calico Winds
With style and grace, Calico Winds is taking wind music to the forefront of the chamber music world by artfully reinventing the conventional wind quintet. They chose the name “Calico” to reflect the many colors and textures offered by the instruments of their ensemble. The group blends top-notch playing, great music and an appealing atmosphere, their repertoire incorporating a wide variety of classical music. “They cross all the style lines and get away with it.” (Los Angeles Times).
